Personal Income in Brooklyn As of 2000, the areas with the highest household incomes included Flatlands/Canarsie, Brooklyn Heights/Fort Greene, and Park Slope/Carroll Gardens. The lowest incomes were in Bushwick, followed by Bedford Stuyvesant and Brownsville/Ocean Hill. Average per capita personal income grew slightly between 1996 and 2000, from $22,460 to $24,111, a 7.3% increase over the entire four year period. While this rate of growth is close to the national rate of inflation, it seriously lags the income levels of the city, the metropolitain region, and the country as a whole.
