BEDC OFFERS WORKSHOP ON STARTING A BUSINESS IN CHILD CARE

BROOKLYN, NY, March 4, 2002-Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) and CWP Associates are offering a free information session, Starting a Business in Child Care. The workshop will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2002, in BEDC's office, 175 Remsen Street, Suite 350, downtown Brooklyn.

The session will provide an overview of opening and operating a successful childcare business. Individuals will explore their aptitude for managing such a business and will learn about various types of childcare services, government regulations, and funding opportunities.

In addition, participants will be able to enroll in the 10-hour Health and Safety Training course that is required by New York State for new childcare providers.

CWP Associates was founded by Cynthia Pearson, a certified trainer and consultant. Ms. Pearson has over twenty years experience in the not-for-profit sector providing an array of services to strengthen individuals, children and families and organizations. Her expertise is in the areas of early childhood educational programs and child welfare services. The former Director of the Child Care Division at the Day Care Council of New York, Inc., she is currently an instructor with York College Adult and Continuing Education Department and is working on several independent training and consulting projects.
