BEDC HOSTS BROOKLYN BOROUGH PRESIDENT CANDIDATES' FORUM BROOKLYN, NY-June 26, 2001--Brooklyn Economic Development Corp. (BEDC) today hosted a Borough President Candidates' Forum where the candidates, Jeannette Gadson, special assistant to the Brooklyn Borough President, State Senator Marty Markowitz, and City Councilman Kenneth Fisher, discussed their vision of economic development for Brooklyn. The candidates' forum took place at a special meeting of the Community Economic Development Council, an organization created by BEDC to provide a forum in which economic development organizations and other community groups in Brooklyn can share strategies that will help improve their neighborhoods. About 270 organizations including local development corporations, business improvement districts, community improvement groups, neighborhood and block associations, training organizations, and community boards participate in the Council, which meets four times a year. "We scheduled this forum because it is important for our members to be informed about the views of the candidates for Brooklyn Borough President on the issues that affect the economic development of Brooklyn" said Joan Bartolomeo, BEDC President. The candidates were provided a list of questions in advance that were prepared with input from Council members. Dennis Holt, senior editor for Brooklyn Eagle Publications, served as the moderator.
