| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BEDC SCHEDULES ADDITIONAL 15-WEEK BROOKLYN, NY, March 28, 2002-Due to an overwhelming response to the Entrepreneur Training Program that Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) launched in March, BEDC is offering a second class this semester. The additional Entrepreneur Training Program will begin April 15, 2002 and will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. every Monday evening for 15 weeks. "This is the first time in the nine years that BEDC has been offering the Entrepreneur Training Program that we've added a second class during a semester," said Hector Rivera, managing director of BEDC. "I think during uncertain economic times such as these when there are budget cuts and layoffs, more individuals want to start businesses because they are seeking greater control over the way they earn a living." Each session will be offered by an industry professional with an expertise in the topic being presented. All sessions will be held at BEDC's office, 175 Remsen Street, Suite 350, downtown Brooklyn. Current and aspiring entrepreneurs are invited to enroll in this 45-hour, hands-on course that will provide entrepreneurs with skills and knowledge that are critical to producing a good business plan and operating a successful business. The program accommodates the beginning entrepreneur as well as experienced business people who wish to refine their skills. Special attention is devoted to the minority and women-owned business community. The program topics will include developing your business and marketing plan: defining your market; personal financial statements and credit review; legal structures; accounting, bookkeeping, and taxes; understanding financial statements; business permits and Minority and Women Business Enterprise certification; site selection and real estate issues; insurance issues, and financing options for small businesses. The cost of the program is $140, which includes materials. Advance registration is required. To register, call Yvonne King at BEDC at 718-522-4600 ext.16. BEDC, a private, nonprofit organization, was established in 1979 to stimulate Brooklyn's economy and create job opportunities for the borough and its residents. BEDC has evolved into a multi-service, business-consulting agency, serving more than 1,000 clients annually and offering comprehensive economic development services.
