FREE WORKSHOP ON UNDERSTANDING COMMERCIAL LEASES

BROOKLYN, NY-November 14, 2003-Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (BEDC), the Boricua College Small Business Development Center, and Association of the Bar of the City of NY Fund, Inc. will present a free small business workshop “Understanding Commercial Leases” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 4, 2003.

The workshop will be held at BEDC's offices 175 Remsen Street, Suite 350, downtown Brooklyn between Court and Clinton. To register or for more information, call BEDC at 718-522-4600, ext. 24. Seating is limited.

Jay Stuart Dankberg, Esq., of the law office of Jay Stuart Dankberg, will conduct the workshop, which will help small business owners understand how commercial leases work and help them avoid some of the most common mistakes made when negotiating office and retail leases.

Topics will include:

- What business owners should look for in a lease.

- Understanding the responsibilities of business tenants versus building owners.

- What happens if business owners break a lease.

- What can be negotiated in a lease.

- The differences between leasing office and retail space.
