09/29/2006 The Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) is basking in glory – thanks to being named New York State’s top not -for-profit organization of the year. New York State Lieutenant Governor Mary Donohue presented BEDC President Joan Bartolomeo with a plaque of distinction during a ceremony in the Conference Room of the local White House, 209 Joralemon Street, attended by a distinguished roster of special guests. The awards, which are sponsored by Empire State Development and the New York State Small Business Advisory Board, are presented annually to recognize outstanding contributions to the state’s small business community. Since 1979, BEDC has provided training and technical assistance to more than 900 companies each year, resulting in the creation and retention of more than 10,000 jobs. The group has trained more than 1,000 current, or aspiring small businessmen and women through its 15-week Entrepreneur Assistance Program and other programs and workshops.
